2009-20010 Season Announcement!
Posted by Todd Haimes - January 26th, 2009

It is my pleasure to announce three Broadway productions for our 2009-2010 season. In the fall of 2009 and winter of 2010 we will present productions of After Miss Julie, by Patrick Marber, starring Sienna Miller; Present Laughter, by Noël Coward, starring Victor Garber; and the anticipated new production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Sienna Miller

Patrick Marber’s After Miss Julie transposes August Strindberg’s 1888 play about sex and class to an English country house on the eve of Labour’s historic landslide in 1945. Sienna Miller will star in the role of “Miss Julie,” and it is an honor to host her Broadway debut. The production will be directed by Mark Brokaw, who is currently helming rehearsals for our upcoming production of Distracted.

Victor Garber

Victor Garber

For Present Laughter, we will welcome back our dear friends Victor Garber and director Nicholas Martin. The comedy centers on matinee idol Garry Essendine (Garber). While Garry struggles to plan his upcoming trip to Africa, his elegant London flat is invaded by a love-struck ingénue, an adulterous producer, a married seductress, Garry’s estranged wife, and a crazed young playwright. Just before Garry escapes, the full extent of his misdemeanors is discovered and all hell breaks loose.

And I am happy to confirm the rumors that our next season will include the first Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning musical Bye Bye Birdie. Bye Bye Birdie was written by Michael Stewart (Book), Lee Adams (Lyrics) and Charles Strouse (Music). Our production will be directed and choreographed by none other than Robert Longbottom (Side Show).

I hope that you share in my excitement, and I look forward to sharing more news with you in the coming months.

  1. Kathy Lewton Says:

    Birdie rises like the phoenix!!

This is a great choice — in gloomy times, an upbeat musical about all-American values (teen-aged love and rock&roll) is super.

    THANKS to Todd!

  2. Freda Berger Says:

Looking forward to the rest of this season’s productions and, of course, to the 2009/2010 season.
